Family Portrait Party! ~ Kent Ohio Family Photographer

Back in December, I invited a huge number of family and friends over for a family portrait party. It was a marathon day and I was beyond exhausted at the end, but it was so worth it to be able to gift the most important people in my life with beautiful portraits. Here’s a collection of images from the day — parents, grandparents, kids, great-grandkids, cousins, friends, and even a few pets!

We’re still waiting for that beautiful Northeast Ohio snow (really, it makes pretty pictures)! While we didn’t have any of the white stuff for Michelle and Neil’s engagement session, downtown Hudson’s holiday decorations made a sweet backdrop for these photos.

Sarah and Joe were pretty much the only Carman & Pugh Photography couple who got rained on in 2011. And it didn’t just drizzle, oh no. It was a torrential downpour that started during their formal portrait shoot between the ceremony at Baldwin Wallace and reception at Springvale Ballroom. We made up for the lost opportunity with a post-wedding bride and groom session in downtown Kent, though, so it all turned out ok!

With groom and groomsmen portraits at Baldwin Wallace’s football stadium and an amazingly rockin’ party put on by Geoff from Hats Off Entertainment, a spontaneous mosh pit and a crowd-surfing groom, Sarah and Joe’s wedding was an unforgettable event!

The first advent calendar day snuck up on me, and all we had for our little advent house were some candy cane kisses. I don’t think my kids minded, though.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation 2012 Ambassador Kid Austin

Have you heard of St. Baldrick’s Foundation? I hadn’t — not until I was contacted by them earlier this year. St. Baldrick’s is a nation-wide charity committed to funding research for childhood cancer. The organization began in 2000 when a few reinsurance executives planned a head-shaving event to raise money to benefit kids with cancer. They exceeded their $17,000 goal by a whole lot – raising over $100,000 instead!

Today there are head-shaving events all across the world, and the head-shavees become walking billboards for the cause. Is this not a fantastic idea? Just brilliant. Over the past 11 years, they have raised more than $114 million to fund the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.

Each year, St. Baldrick’s chooses 5 Ambassador Kids to represent the statistic that one out of every five children with cancer will not survive. Here’s where we meet Austin, a 5-year-old two-time cancer survivor from Cleveland Heights. I was asked by St. Baldrick’s to photograph Austin and his family for the 2012 Ambassador Kid campaign.

I met Austin, his big brother Braedan, mom Krissy, and dad Mark at their home early one October morning. To say I was honored to photograph and spend time with this family would be a huge understatement. Beautiful inside and out, warm and welcoming and full of life, I left their home absolutely in awe. Despite all they’ve been through, this family simply shines. The boys were a blast, and they were the most energetic siblings I’ve photographed all year (Krissy, I don’t know how you do it. Seriously).

After lots of rescheduling due to the fickle weather in October, we finally found the perfect day and location for this family’s portrait session! The sun was gorgeous, the tracks and bridges were great, and of course the family was lovely. From grandparents to teenagers to sweet little girls, I think the only age this group was missing was a baby or two. Maybe sometime in the future!

CLEVELAND/AKRON PHOTOGRAPHER ~ PROJECT 52 WEEK 45 {close up}

This week’s Project 52 theme is “close up.” I completely forgot I had committed to participating in our blog circle this week. As I sat down at my computer with a hot mug of coffee I remembered that I had a deadline this morning, so I grabbed my son and made him stand by the back door. There’s something so fun about close up images of kids with a wide angle lens. These were shot at 24mm.

Now that he’s three, he’s apparently decided that smiling should not include teeth. The only thing I could say to get him to smile a real smile was “butt.” Oh, kids.

Samantha and Patrick’s Rock ‘n Roll Wedding ~ Cleveland Wedding Photographers

Samantha and Patrick’s wedding was absolutely amazing. Their reception at the Portage Country Club was one of the best parties we saw all year, thanks in part to Shady Drive, a rockin’ live band from Cleveland. Samantha surprised Patrick at the end of their ceremony with a bagpipe player to lead them back down the aisle, and then she had another surprise waiting for him at the reception – a groom’s cake replica of his guitar!

We truly had such a great time getting to know Samantha, Patrick, and their wonderful families. Beautiful people, inside and out!

Emily’s Portrait Session at the Canton Garden Center ~ Akron Children’s Photographer

Emily was the runner-up in our Cutest Kid Contest way back in spring! I got together with Emily and her parents at the Canton Garden Center for a portrait session. Absolutely adorable, isn’t she? The weather has been brutal this season, and I think we had to reschedule this session two or three times. We finally picked an evening that wasn’t rainy, but it was actually really overcast and very dark. It wasn’t the ideal “golden hour” light, but I think the photos turned out beautifully regardless.

Giving Back ~ Liane and David ~ Wish Upon a Wedding Ohio

In August, we had the wonderful honor of photographing Liane and David’s wedding wish, granted by the awesome Wish Upon a Wedding organization along with many fabulous vendors in Ohio. Liane and David were married at their home church, and their reception followed at The Courtyard by Marriot in Canton. Always Eventful‘s Tricia Dever brought everything together. She is such a rock star! If you need a coordinator, you can’t go wrong with Tricia. The beautiful cake was made by Checkerboard Cheesecake, music was provided by Get Down Sound, and The Budding Tree provided absolutely gorgeous flowers. The elegant linens were from L’nique, and amazing stationery was donated by Paper Allure.
